St. Mary's Lutheran Church - 2001 80th Street, Kenosha, Wisconsin 53143-5899

Church in Society

Church in Society meets monthly to discuss issues of how our church interfaces with our community. The Lutheran World Relief clothing and care packages are one example. In addition, Bread for the World, the Equal Exchange coffee project, the SERVV (Handicrafts from third world countries) a great many projects in conjunction with Urban Outreach Center, and other similar projects are under consideration at all times.

CUSH

CUSH is an acronym for Congregations United to Serve Humanity. There are about 15 congregations from Kenosha that belong to CUSH to work for issues of social justice in our community. Some projects CUSH has undertaken in recent times,  included a permanent homeless shelter, a mental health task force, affordable housing to be included in city properties, building a skateboard park in Kenosha, and other similar projects. Representatives from each congregation and some clergy members attend a monthly meeting. The every -other-year agenda sets the stage for new initiatives to be worked on in coming years. CUSH does not do the physical work to accomplish these projects. Rather, CUSH helps motivate and influence people who make these projects happen.
